The Armory Chamber
The oldest museums of Moscow are located in the territory of the Moscow Kremlin. One of them is "Oruzheinaya Palata" or "The Armoury" (Armoury Chamber). The Armoury was founded about 500 years ago. In the 15th century it was called "Kazennaya Palata", where the Tsar treasures had been stored. The museum displays the unique specimens of applied art and precious utensils, i.e. collection of jewelry of the 12th-20th centuries; the collection of West-European silver utensils of the 13th-19th centuries (ambassadorial gifts); the collection of elite arms (12th to 19th centuries); the collection of golden and silver embroidery (14th to 19th centuries); the collection of fabrics and clothing of the 14th to the beginning of 20th centuries; accouterments and Tsars` carriages.
The Grand Kremlin Palace tour
The unique tour around one of the most beautiful Palaces in Russia, located on the grounds of the Moscow Kremlin. The Grand Kremlin Palace was formerly the tsar`s Moscow residence. The palace, which has more than 700 rooms, was built for Tsar Nicholas I between 1838 and 1849 by Konstantin A.Thon and Nikolay A. Chichagov and associates. It comprises the Palace of Facets and the Holy Vestibule, parts of a 15th-century Palace, the Tsarina`s Golden Chamber from the 16th century, the 17th-century Terem Palace, along with palace cathedrals and churches. Situated in the new palace, are the enfilades of halls dedicated to the Russian orders St.George, St.Vladimir, St.Andrew, St.Alexander and St.Catherine, as well as the imperial family`s private apartments and a suite of state apartments.
The Tretyakov Gallery
The State Tretyakov Gallery is the biggest art museum in Russia housing the largest collection of the Russian art. The Gallery was founded by P.M. Tretyakov (1832-1898), a Moscow merchant, who dreamed of a museum accessible for any visitor, with fine collection of objects, which would describe the whole history of the Russian art. On display here are the specimens of early Russian art of the 9th to 17th centuries, including the icons of the 12th to 17th centuries from Kiev, Novgorod, Central Russia painted by Andrei Rublev, Simon Ushakov, Dionysius; pictures; drawings and sculptures of the 18th to 19th centuries (F.S. Rokotov, F.I. Shubin, O.A. Kiprensky, I.I. Shishkin, I.E. Repin, I.I. Levitan, K.A. Korovin, etc.) and the works of painters from "The World of Art" association (A.N. Benua, K.A. Somov), "The Blue Rose" association (M. Saryan, V. Borisov-Musatov), "The Knave of Diamonds" association (P.P. Konchalovsky, I.I. Mashkov); the works of the representatives of the Russian avant-garde (V.V. Kandinsky, K.S. Malevich, M. Shagal and many others).
St.Basil Cathedral is one of the treasures of Russia and the world. A masterpiece of architecture, it was constructed some time in 16th century during the reign of Ivan Grozny (the Terrible). The legend has it that Ivan had the workers blinded after the building was completed, so that they would not be able to construct anything similar some other place.
The Pushkin museum of Fine Arts
The biggest Moscow`s collection of the Western-European art is on display at the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The Museum comprises the collections displayed in the Halls of Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Antique, Early-Christian Arts. On display are the paintings and sculptures of the 14th - 19th centuries, the works by famous Italian painters (Simone Martini, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Domenico Tresini), Holland painters (Peter Piters, Peter Breigel Jr.), Flamand painters (A. van Ostade, Y.I. van Reisdal, Rembrandt Harmens van Rein), German painters (Lucas Cranah Sr.) and French artists (F. Bushe, J-B. Sharden). There is a special department in the Museum called the Museum of Private Collections.
The State Historical museum
The State Historical Museum on the Red Square was founded on personal order of Emperor Alexander II in 1872. Built according to the project of Architecture Academician V. O. Sherwood and engineer A. A. Semyonov, the museum was open to the public in 1883.Today the Historical Museum is national treasure house of Russia, depository of historical relics of global importance. More than 4,5 million objects and almost 15 million sheets of a unique documentary archive represent history and culture of the Russian state back to the ancient times.
historically-demonstrative Hall of Federal Service of Security of Russia (former name - the Chekist Hall of KGB of the USSR) was opened in September 1984 on the initiative of Y.V.Andropov, who was then the Chairman of KGB. The Hall was created for perfecting professional training of the State Security organs employees, as well as for education of young employees in the best traditions of special service organs. From the beginning and up to 1989 the number of visitors exceeded 60 thousand people. Among them were leaders and operative staff of the Central body as well as of local organs, teachers and students of educational establishments of KGB, employees of the Social countries Security organs, who came in groups; frequent visitors were those who got training in this country, also deputies of Supreme Soviet of the USSR and Russian Federation. Social political reforms, broadening openness and democratic reforms in the country caused the necessity of a wider interpretation of the Security organs activities. With this purpose in view in October 1989 the Hall was opened for organized groups of representatives of factories and offices, officers, students and schoolchildren. A little later the similar decision was taken concerning foreign guests. Before the opening of the Hall a presentation for Soviet and foreign journalists accredited in Moscow was held. Since that moment the Hall was visited by hundreds of thousands of Russian and foreign guests. It was visited by practically all the main special services of the world.
